Fly to Let investors may now find it easier to find properties along the stunning Italian coastline of Amalfi.
Previously property usually changed hands privately, by local word of mouth, but independent real estate and restoration agency, Italian Property has managed to expand its network to cover this dramatic peninsula, south of Naples, which is famous for its breathtaking views.
The agency has already acquired some exclusive Costiera Amalfitana addresses - from luxury villas with private access to the sea, to a converted 15th century convent.
MD Jason Jones, said: “Amalfi’s dramatic landscape, with its tightly packed towns clinging to the cliffs, limits new building and makes existing properties very desirable - and less vulnerable to any downward pressure on prices.
Italian Property’s portfolio spans all the coast’s glamorous destinations, from postcard-perfect Positano and jet-set Capri, to hill-top retreats around Ravello and, of course, Amalfi itself.”
The Amalfi coast was discovered by the first Grand Tourists nearly two centuries ago, and its shores have been a magnet for artists, writers, composers and film stars ever since.
Its stunning towns and spectacular views have inspired JMW Turner, DH Lawrence and Richard Wagner, and drawn a roll call of silver screen divas, from Greta Garbo and Sophia Loren to Angelina Jolie.
Today it is still the definitive romantic getaway, and its idyllic coastline remains relatively unspoilt. Visitors can drive the serpentine coast road and swim from the little coves that dot the cliffs, trek through the olive groves and lemon trees of the Lattari mountains or wander streets that haven't changed in a millennium.
Luxury yachts rub shoulders with working fishing vessels and, in the towns, trendy boutiques sit side-by-side traditional trattorias and shops selling local specialities such as handmade paper and limoncello.
Villa Antares, a prestigious villa in the village of Vettica, five minutes from Amalfi, is a prime example of the exclusive real estate secured by the company. Spilt over two levels, the house has seven bedrooms, all en-suite, a large living space with floor to ceiling windows - to give an uninterrupted view of the sea - a professionally equipped kitchen and a cocktail bar.
Outside space includes an organic garden, a dining terrace, a graceful gazebo seating area, a solarium and Jacuzzi. Villa Antares also has a garage, private access to the sea and a small private jetty. Simply but elegantly furnished throughout, it is the epitome of chic Italian living. The property is on the market for €9.3m.
Other available properties include a luxury villa, complete with motorboat, on the island of Capri, a hilltop house with panoramic terrace near Positano, and a partially restored property with ruins ripe for renovation near Ravello – one of the few remaining examples of this type in the area. Prices start at €1.6m.
• A new Jet2.com route from Leeds Bradford International airport to Larnarca in Cyprus has already attracted high demand and backs up recent figures that suggest the country is now a top holiday destination for British visitors, which in turn has boosted Fly to Let demand.
The latest official figures from the Cyprus Ministry for Tourism show that overall numbers of visitors to Cyprus increased from 219,263 in the first quarter of 2007 to 228,962 for the same period in 2008.
This increase of 4.4 percent year on year shows the increasing popularity of this Mediterranean country, with visitors from the UK topping the list for tourist visitors to Cyprus.
Martin Pearce, UK Sales Director for Aristo Developers said: “It is refreshing that in a climate where there is much talk of a global credit crunch and diminishing tourist figures that statistics actually show that visitors to Cyprus are on the rise. With numbers of those travelling from the EU and specifically the UK growing at a such positive rate, it is clear that more and more people are discovering the wonders of Cyprus' ancient sites, cultural variety and stunning scenery.”
Brits are drawn to the island by its climate, quality of life and because of the strong British influences that exist in Cyprus which was a British colony until 1960."
Jean and Malcolm Goulding, who have recently bought a property through Aristo, are keen to praise the country and all it has to offer. Jean said: “Every day the sun shines. The people are extremely friendly and the island has a very low crime rate so you can always feel safe walking the streets day and night.”
Pearce added: “Demand for Cyprus in the UK, be it holidays or property, has always been high and with British visitors always topping the tourist stats, Aristo have recognised that by opening a representative office in the UK.”
Aristo will be appearing at The Countryside Live Harrogate show on the 25 and 26 October, when visitors can get more information on buying in Cyprus.
