Get online at US airports for free with Google
People travelling to and from Fly to Let holiday homes in America over the Christmas and New Year period will be able to get online for nothing at several US airports thanks to Google.
The internet company has teamed up with Boingo Wireless, Advanced Wireless Group, and Airport Marketing to provide free wireless hotspots at nearly 50 different locations.
Travellers who log will be invited to make a donation to charity, with Google matching any contributions to a maximum of $250,000.
Seattle and Burbank, California, airports will offer airport-wide free Wi-Fi indefinitely as a result of the holiday project, according to Google.
While access to wireless Internet is free at some airports, travellers can face charges ranging from a few dollars to tens of dollars to spend time online while waiting for flights at other locations.
The free wireless is available between now and January 15, 2010.
British investors are still a dominant force in the South of France
Even with a UK recession, the British are still the largest buyers of French property in the South of France, accounting for around 50 percent of all foreign buyers according to data from Perval 2009 Notaires statistics.
France’s housing market relies heavily on its fixed rate mortgage which makes it less prone to sharp ups and downs. Interest rates are now back to their pre-crisis levels so modest house price increases are now expected.
In fact, house prices in France rose 3.9 percent q-o-q in Q2, 2009 according to the National Association of Real Estate Agents in France (FNAIM.) These quarterly price increases are the highest since Q2 in 2004.
“Whilst these are excellent and positive statistics one must bear in mind that prices along the French Riviera have dropped in the past 10 months and therefore there are still some excellent purchases to be made,” said Serge Cowan, MD, Unique Living.
“Astute buyers and business people have taken on board the changing market and appreciate that compared to a year earlier, the average price of dwellings in France was down 6.6 percent. The marked difference is still being felt offering those in a position to proceed, excellent opportunities to secure superior homes in prime locations.”
Giant statues on the move at Bangkok airport
Fly to Let owners and their customers checking in at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi airport, will be queuing along with 12 giant statues in the future.
The ‘demon’ statues, which are modelled on 12 similar effigies at Bangkok's Grand Palace, are currently in the arrivals area.
But officials at the airport have agreed to move them after staff at Thailand’s main international airport complained that the figures had brought bad luck down on them.
One of the examples they cited was an incident when demonstrators and supporters of the People's Alliance of Democracy (PAD), an anti-government organisation, blockaded the premises for more than a week last year which had an adverse affect on local business and the country’s tourism.
In an interview with the Bangkok Post newspaper airport director Niran Thiranartsin said: “The shopkeepers are blaming the 'demon statues' for the problems they have faced at the airport.”
