Rumours that British Airways are training staff to cover for cabin crew should their Unite Union go ahead with threatened strikes appear to be true.
Reports are emerging that in a briefing to staff, BA chief executive Willie Walsh outlined plans to counteract the action.
These plans included training up around 1,000 volunteers to cover cabin crew duties, plus using more than 20 fully crewed aircraft from a charter company to run short haul flights on BA routes.
• The summer-only service operated by BA CityFlyer between London City Airport and Barcelona is once again being extended to throughout the year. From May there will be seven flights a week.
• EasyJet has been ordered by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) not to repeat an advertisement which claimed Ryanair did not fly passengers “to the place you actually booked” after a complaint by its Irish ‘low cost’ rival.
The poster ad campaign insinuated that Ryanair only flew to airports close to cities and not the destinations themselves.
In its complaint to the ASA Ryanair said the advertisement was misleading because its own advertising and website made clear where the airline flew to.
• Malaga remained the most searched for location in January according to the flight search engine Skyscanner although Spain did lose one of its top 10 destinations with Lanzarote slipping three places to number11.
Amsterdam moved up two places into 8th and Dublin moved up four places into 9th, probably due to travellers booking flights to Ireland for St Patrick’s Day.
February saw a new entry in the top 50 with the Polish city of Rzeszow came in at number 45. Indian city Delhi saw the biggest rise in search popularity since January, climbing 12 places in the charts. Las Vegas dropped out of the top 50.
