Although the Spanish Ministries of Housing and Economy & Finance has been producing gloomy figures when it comes to property, one specialist is claiming that where there’s distress, there’s opportunity.
Costa Cálida-based Mercers says it is experiencing increased sales figures over the summer as bargain-hunters come out in force.
Director of Mercers’ Mazarron office, Gerard Rees said: “Thankfully it seems that every cloud does indeed have a silver lining and buyers are able to pick up some incredibly well-priced properties. We have a number of vendors who are highly motivated to sell due to financial or personal reasons and in some cases prices have been slashed quite considerably.
“Astonishingly we can offer terraced villas from as little as €65,000. Furthermore, with the pound still devalued, vendors repatriating profits back to the UK are making far more money than they would have done this time last year, so there’s plenty of room for even more negotiation.
“At Mercers business is brisk and we’re certain that those who pick up deals now will be well placed to make a significant return on their investment over the next two to three years.”
Below are some of the properties which Mercers say are being offered at bargain prices.
A two bedroom one bathroom terraced villa which has never been occupied, within walking distance of an 18-hole golf course, clubhouse and contemporary four star Spa hotel is on sale for €65,000 (£51,714 approx). The property is fully furnished and has a roof terrace and views.
In Camposol, Mazarron, a two bedroom one bathroom detached property with swimming pool is on the market for €139,995 (£111,442 approx). It is fully fitted and furnished with satellite television and garden furniture plus gazebo, plus terracing and views.
Also in Camposol is a detached and extended villa with swimming pool plus extra room housing a full-size basement and office for €279,000 (£222,166 approx).
The property has four bedrooms, three bathrooms and an enclosed wrap-around terrace. It is partly furnished with air-conditioning, central heating, and mountain views from the rooftop solarium.
• A recent survey delved into where in the world people want to visit before they 'kick the bucket' marking the release of the blockbuster film The Bucket List on DVD.
Some may condemn this as a morbid subject but in all reality there is a wonderful world out there to be explored and travel is on the top of the agenda for the British public in order to live life to the full.
The volume and diversity of buying abroad media is feeding our aspirations of where to go and what to do in a world that is becoming easier to access due to leaps in technology and travel.
The Bucket List Survey highlights 10 top locations chosen by the public. The Grand Canyon steals the number one slot closely followed by the Great Pyramids in Egypt, The Great Wall of China and Niagara Falls also feature in the list. Overall the destinations, climate and activities cover a very broad spectrum.
Brits are not only making big decisions about where to travel in the world but also where to live. The market for overseas property is growing. Recent statistics released from the AIPP (Association of International Property Professionals) featuring 2007 figures show that Brits bought approximately 242,000 properties abroad in 2007, an increase of 21 percent from 2006.
Steve Worboys Director of overseas property company Experience International said: “Markets such as Egypt, Bulgaria, Morocco and Italy have seen between a 3.7 percent and 6 percent increase in foreign property buyers since 2006. I also think that countries such as Tunisia, an emerging market, will experience a growth foreign ownership in the coming years.
“Whether it is for investment or lifestyle, the world has much to offer and perhaps this new film will give us a wider perspective on things.”
